We all start out our relationships enamored of each other. We feel that magical connection and even experience the ecstasy of union. We usually become couples because of this bonding, full of the sense that we are on the same side, sharing love, caring and support.

With our new book coming out next week, it’s a good time to share our personal reasons for writing it and how it came about.
Every relationship starts out well, and so did ours. As it continued, we were both struck by the sense that it was different and unusual, that it had a peaceful nature that was not circumstantial, but intrinsic.

The popularly held belief concerning relationships is that all of them have conflict, and that it is how you handle the conflict that is important. In fact it is put forth that if people claim not to have conflict in their relationship, they are suppressing or ignoring reality.

One requirement for a successful relationship is that your core values match. What do we mean by core values? Well, they are what you value – duh – and you’re gonna have to name them for yourself. Not everybody holds the same values, because if they did, the issue of needing a match wouldn’t arise.

Often when people think about the issue of acceptance, they think it is about compromise. Compromise is an act of giving up something to get something else. It assumes that there are different sides, and that one must settle in order to avoid conflict.

Maude: I feel stronger, better and more able to love others, as a result of this union of ours. Perhaps these words are too sweeping and sound like I have become lost in this shared merging. Regardless, I know that I am clear and grounded in my everyday world and that I feel like a carrier of peace.
